Master's of Macro 2027

with Byron Conroy and Andy Deitsch

Join Byron and Andy for our 4th Master’s of Macro workshop in Lembeh, Indonesia, known as the muck diving capital of the world! If you would like to learn more about this location and the kind of images you could capture here, check out our previous articles:

Accommodation at Dive into Lembeh is in seaview bungalows, starting from April 26 for 9 nights or an extended workshop for 12 nights.

Our bungalows have AC, ceiling-fan, minibar, safe, ensuite bathroom and a balcony with a hot tub to relax in at the end of the day's diving.

Our meal plan includes all meals (starting with dinner on arrival day and ending with breakfast on departure day), tea, local coffee, water and snacks, as well as wifi (Starlink).

We dive with fast speedboats that return back to the resort after each dive, and we have a large camera room with dedicated work stations and rinse tanks.

The idea of this workshop is to enhance people's skills, teach a variety of techniques, allow you to use new and interesting lenses, diopters, lighting that you wouldn't normally have access to, and have access to photo pros in order to ask questions and develop ideas with.

Each diving day consists of 3 guided day dives by speedboat on a 2/1 ratio (one guide for every two divers), a lecture and live demonstration on a new technique or skill followed by an image review and live edit session where each guest will put in a few pictures each day so the groups can discuss them openly in a friendly learning environment and they can be editing live on the TV screen.

You will each be given a dedicated workstation in our camera room, and the photo pros will be in and around this all day in between dives to help and assist with anything, to look at your images and help you out with anything you might need and to help push your ideas further.

All our dive guides are highly experienced in assisting photographers underwater and several of them are award winning photographers themselves.

Key lectures and demos will cover the following subjects:

  • Composition, subject selection, mastering basic settings

  • Black backgrounds, snoots, and light beam accessories

  • Shallow depth of field and diopters

  • Advanced lighting techniques, Back lighting, colored lighting, inward lighting and continuous lighting,

  • Artificial Backgrounds and unusual lens

  • Slow shutter photography, creative use of shutter speeds

  • Bringing it all together combining techniques and your creative vision.
