Experience and Training

Due to the extreme cold in Silfra it is a drysuit dive, local dive companies all adhere to the same rules with regard to training and experience for this dive. A minimum of 10 logged drysuit dives in the the last 2 years OR drysuit certification from any diving agency. Local companies also offer a 2 day package of drysuit diving day number one and Silfra on day number two for those who aren’t already certified or experienced with a drysuit. Once you have drysuit training then it opens up a whole new world of scuba diving.

Marine life - This is a freshwater site, so no marine life but large lake trout and Arctic Char can be spotted.

Current - Minimal, there is a lazy current gently pushing you down stream.

Local guide - A local guide is highly recommended, their knowledge of the park and the dive site enhances this once in a lifetime experience plus it’s much easier to get the required equipment as it is hard to rent in Iceland, they also take care of park fees and transport.

Dive season - All year around, but summer is the peak diving season from May to October.
